Tell us about yourself I am a pianist, Chancel Choir member, occasional organist, all-the-time music lover. My husband, Gordon, and I have been members here at FUMC wince 1969, and I have at different times been Chancel Choir director, organist, Director of Music and now Music Coordinator. My degrees are from the University of Kansas (Bachelor of Music) and Northwestern University (Master of Church Music). I am still learning from friends and colleagues, may it ever be so!
What do you do as Music Coordinator? I help to plan and schedule the music for our various worship services.
What is the best part of your job? The best part of my job is working with our pastors and our great music staff to create vibrant worship that centers around a particular theme for the season and for the day.
What do you think you would be doing right now if God had not called you to be in ministry? If I had not been called into this particular vocation, I would still be involved in the field of music. I have for many years been a professional accompanist, playing for singers and instrumentalists of all ages - from Children's choirs to graduate and professional students.
If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be? I would choose to be in Florence, drinking in the art, architecture and history of that beautiful city.
What are you reading? I read as much as possible, both fiction and non-fiction and would be hard pressed to name a favorite book. But here are several that I could read over and over: The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver; Galileo's Daughter by Dava Sobel; and My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Burrell - a wildly amusing story of the Durrell family's sojourn on the Greek island of Corfu, where Gerry began his serious study of zoology and collected the island's animals as household pets.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I hope to be wiser and more patient.
