Curriculum

We know a lot about how children grow and learn

Our curriculum is based on what we know about how children grow and learn. To meet
the individual needs of young children the curriculum at Little Learners does the following:

  • Focuses on the total development of the child - social, emotional, physical, intellectual and language. Activities are geared for different ages and developmental levels.
  • Provides guidance for children as he/she learns to relate to others, to develop warm, human relationships, and function as an effective member of a group.
  • Consists of age appropriate experiences within the child's range of interests and abilities so that there are many opportunities for success that contribute to his or her sense of self-worth.
  • Variety of topics and classroom activities that change daily and/or weekly.

A Typical Day
Because of our age ranges of 2 years through 5 years, the time of activities vary in each
classroom. The older children will stay with one activity for a longer time period. The
younger children may participate in these same activities several times during the day but for a
shorter length of time. At different times during the day, children participate in the following activities:

Freeplay:
Small manipulatives, blocks, art experiences, cooking, dramatic play,
carpentry, books, floor toys, and sensory play with water, sand, rice and other materials

Circle Time:
Calendar, Theme of the Day activities, stories, songs, fingerplays,
readiness activities, movement CDs and tapes, music activities, Show & Tell, creative
dramatics

Nutritious Snacks:
Children set the tables and help clean up. Parents provide snacks
about 4 times a year.

Large Muscle Room:
Group games, riding toys, crawling, climbing, jumping,
ball skills, balancing, large block building
