“The United Methodist Church believes God's love for the world is an active and engaged love, a love seeking justice and liberty. We cannot just be observers. So we care enough about people's lives to risk interpreting God's love, to take a stand, to call each of us into a response, no matter how controversial or complex. The church helps us think and act out a faith perspective, not just responding to all the other "mind-makers-up" that exist in our society. (from The Church and Society pages of the United Methodist Church's website)
Our mission is to help raise awareness, to present opportunities, and to assist efforts when our faith and compassion demand we take a stand. Opportunity of the Month Club
We've all seen the “fruit of the month” or “flower of the month” gifts ideas and while it may be nice to give or get one of those, Church and Society has an even better idea. Starting February, we will present a new opportunity and a chance for you to give a gift that keeps on giving and to make a difference. This website or our bulletin board at Church will have details.
What will it take? Time (and passion for fairness and justice helps.) How much? As little or as much as the spirit moves you.
What is needed? Action volunteers – could you answer a call to possibly show up at a public meeting? Its not too often and if you can make the meeting all you'd need to do is stand in silent witness showing support of the issue.
Issue Volunteers – is a particular issue is near and dear to your heart? Are you willing to spent some time with like minded individuals working on it (but don't want to deal with the administrative stuff?
Core Team Volunteers - to coordinate with SOPHIA and be part of the team representing FUMC in our selected areas of interest and participation.
Opportunity of the Month details coming soon...
